5 Summer Fitness Tips You Must Know

Steve MoyeA healthy lifestyle should be a year-round goal and maintaining it in every season should be high on your priority list. Summer is everything from bathing suits to ice cream and when it comes to working out, vacations sometimes get in the way. It is important to remember that no matter how many ice cream cones you divulge in or margarita happy hours, to always keep focus on your fitness goals in the Summer. Below are some helpful tips from health and fitness experts Amber Edwards, Madison Wright, and Marvin Foster.

1. Get moving! Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, cardio is your best friend. Even if it is minimal cardio like walking a bit faster or taking the stairs instead of the elevator at work.

2. Breath correctly. Breathe in and out from your diaphragm. In order to do this correctly, think of your breathing as being 3D. Your ribcage should expand from front to back, top to bottom, and left to right. The reason you will want to take such deep breaths is because it will help you burn extra calories and give you more energy during your workouts. Not only will this breathing exercise help during workouts, it will also help burn calories when you are simply watching TV, working at your desk, or walking down the street!

3.Reusable water bottle only. Of course water is very important for working out and also necessary when traveling anywhere in day to day life. Being dehydrated is often mistaken for being hungry which leads to weight gain and over consumption. Dehydration can lead to unhealthy food cravings, headaches and fatigue. Drink more water to keep yourself alert and make healthy food choices. Carrying a reusable water bottle with you wherever you go is important for your health and fitness goals. You can also empty water before any security checkpoint and fill it right back up once you’re through. And you save tons of money by not buying plastic water bottles throughout the day!

4.Swim in the Ocean! The Earth’s largest pool is available to you in the summertime so take advantage of it and get a great workout in. Go into the ocean and challenge yourself to see how long you can tread water for. Attempt for three rounds and then try to go longer each round.

5.Bench Workouts. Benches are everywhere in many outdoor areas and serve as a great fitness tool. Looking for a quick full body routine? Start standing on top of the bench and then lunge behind you while bending the back knee as low to the ground as possible. Keep your front knee directly above the heel to protect your knee. Perform reverse lunges alternating completing 8 on each leg, to total 16. Next, step down and sit on the bench with your legs out straight in front of you, feet on the ground. Press your palms on the bench, lift your rear end off and place yourself slightly in front of the bench, while bending your elbows directly behind you for a tricep dip. Try 15 and make sure to get full range of motion. Then, turn around and finish the set with 15 push ups, hands on the bench, keeping your back in a straight line from neck to spine. Start from the beginning with reverse lunges, then tricep dips and pushups. Try for three full sets.
